Make the most of the appointment

  • Ask for the three most important things to be written down.
  • If drops will blur your sight, arrange a lift home.

Common questions

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. A friend or relative can listen, take notes and help you remember. Many clinics also let you record the conversation if you ask first.

What if I do not understand the answer?

Say so and ask again. Ask the clinician to write down the name of the condition and any treatment, so you can look it up afterwards. Ask whether there is a leaflet, and whether the clinic has an Eye Care Liaison Officer (ECLO).

How do I get a copy of my results?

You have a right to see your health records. Ask the clinic for a copy of the letter sent to your GP, and check it arrives.
